Blackfly Challenge is a 38 mile Gravel Grinder race in Inlet, NY. It’s a team favorite with a great after party that tends to bring out mountain bikers, gravel enthusiasts and roadies alike. This year marked the first time the race had taken place since 2019 and it was fantastic to see it so well supported.
The Syracuse Women’s Race Team came out in force and were rewarded with a confident win in the Women’s Fatbike category. Julie Shulsky took first place despite going into the race with no plan to take the top podium spot. She said of the race afterwards:
“It was the most fun I’ve had at Blackfly Challenge! The weather was perfect, the downhills were FAST ”
Towing the start line with Julie was Trish Welsh on her gravel bike and Jocelyn Rabin, Annette Fentress, Nicky Ruszkowski and Justine Kreso who all chose to race in the mountain bike categories. Marcia Baldwin decided not to race but came out to support the team. Annette posted a personal best time and finished 5th in her age group, and while not an official team member, but a loyal sponsor and supporter, Ben Rabin also came in at the top of his category taking a win in the ultra competitive Fatbike category.
All around a great day to be out racing.
